Vivelle-Dot® (estradiol patch) is the smallest estrogen patch currently available. It is licensed to treat menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness and irritation. It is also approved for preventing osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who are at significant risk for osteoporosis and for replacing hormones in younger women whose ovaries do not produce enough estrogen. Vivelle-Dot, which is available by prescription, is applied to the skin of the lower abdomen twice a week. Potential side effects include headaches, sinus infection, and breast tenderness.
