Premarin Vaginal Cream

Premarin Vaginal Cream is an estrogen medication used to relieve vaginal dryness and itching in postmenopausal women. This prescription medication works by replacing the estrogen that the ovaries no longer produce. Women are typically recommended to use this product cyclically, such as three weeks on and one week off. Potential side effects include headaches, nausea, and breast tenderness.

Who Makes It?

Premarin Vaginal Cream is made by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

How Does It Work?

Premarin Vaginal Cream is a mixture of natural equine (horse) estrogens. It helps relieve menopausal symptoms by replacing the estrogen that the ovaries no longer produce. It is a good alternative to hormone replacement therapy taken by mouth, especially in women who only have vaginal menopausal symptoms. It should be noted that a significant amount of Premarin Vaginal Cream is absorbed into the bloodstream, and many of the risks associated with oral hormone replacement therapy are expected to occur with Premarin Vaginal Cream as well.
