Minivelle Warnings and Precautions
Before using Minivelle, you should be aware that this medicated skin patch can make certain health conditions worse, such as endometriosis, diabetes, and epilepsy. Warnings and precautions with Minivelle also apply to women who have certain allergies or are taking certain medications. You should not use this drug if you are pregnant or have had a heart attack.
You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Minivelle™ (estradiol patch) if you have:
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding
- Heart disease, or heart problems of any kind
- Cancer, or if you have had cancer in the past
- Had a heart attack, stroke, or blood clot
- Gallbladder disease
- High cholesterol, high triglycerides, or high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Diabetes
- Had yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice) during a prior pregnancy or estrogen use
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE, or lupus)
- Migraines
- Kidney disease, including kidney failure (renal failure)
- Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver tumors
- Asthma
- Porphyria (a condition involving problems with certain enzymes in the body)
- Seizures or epilepsy
- An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
- Endometriosis
- Any allergies, including to drugs, foods, preservatives, or dyes.
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:
- Still have a uterus (have not had a hysterectomy)
- Have an upcoming surgery
- Smoke cigarettes
- Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
- Are breastfeeding.
You should also tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
