Menostar Drug Interactions
When you take certain antifungals, antibiotics, or seizure medications while using Menostar, drug interactions could occur. Other medications that may lead to negative interactions include protease inhibitors, St. John's wort, thyroid replacement medicines, and barbiturates. Drug interactions with Menostar can either increase your risk of developing side effects or decrease the effectiveness of the medication.

Menostar® (estradiol patch) has the potential to interact with various other medicines, although many Menostar drug interactions are not considered serious. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions include:
- Some seizure medications, such as:
- Carbamazepine (Carbatrol®, Epitol®, Equetro™, Tegretol®)
- Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal®)
- Phenytoin (Dilantin®, Phenytek®)
- Barbiturates, such as:
- Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
- Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
- Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
- Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
- Protease inhibitor medications, such as:
- Amprenavir (Agenerase®)
- Atazanavir (Reyataz®)
- Fosamprenavir (Lexiva®)
- Indinavir (Crixivan®)
- Nelfinavir (Viracept®)
- Ritonavir (Norvir®)
- Rifamycin antibiotics, including rifabutin (Mycobutin®), rifampin (Rifadin®), and rifapentine (Priftin®)
- St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum), an herbal supplement
- Thyroid replacement (hypothyroidism) medications, such as:
- Liothyronine (Cytomel®)
- Liotrix (Thyrolar®)
- Levothyroxine (Levothroid®, Levoxyl®, Synthroid®, Tirosint®, Unithroid®)
- Thyroid (Armor® Thyroid, Nature-Throid®)
- Various antifungal medications or antibiotics, such as:
- Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
- Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
- Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
- Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
- Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
- Miconazole
- Telithromycin (Ketek®).
