Menopause Home > Prempro Drug Information

Prempro™ (conjugated estrogens/medroxyprogesterone) is a medication that contains a mixture of natural equine (horse) estrogens and a progestin hormone. It is often prescribed to help relieve symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. This prescription drug can also help prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Prempro is sold in tablet form and is usually taken once a day. Headaches and breast pain are two of the most commonly reported side effects. However, most women are able to take this product without any problems.

Prior to taking Prempro, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information about any other medications you are taking, including nonprescription products and supplements, and any other medical conditions you have. This product is not suitable for everyone, and discussing these things with your healthcare provider can help him or her ensure that this is the best medicine for you.

(Click Prempro for more information on this drug, including other side effects, generic availability, and what to do in cases of overdose.)
