Menopause Home > Black Cohosh Root Supplements

Women who are interested in herbal supplements for menopause relief may consider black cohosh (Actaea racemosa, Cimicifuga racemosa). While it is not exactly clear how black cohosh works for this purpose, it may have estrogen-like effects in the body, which helps it relieve symptoms like hot flashes and vaginal dryness.

Many studies have evaluated the effectiveness of black cohosh root supplements for treating the symptoms of menopause, and the results have been mixed. Some studies indicated that it worked well, while other studies suggested that it was no more effective than a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients).
