In most cases, side effects of femhrt tend to be minor and are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider. Some of the most common femhrt side effects include headaches, stomach pain, and breast pain. Although most women tolerate femhrt well, serious side effects can also occur. Notify your healthcare provider immediately if you develop any serious femhrt side effects, such as chest pain, vision changes, or heavy vaginal bleeding.
An Introduction to Femhrt Side EffectsAs with any medicine, femhrt® (norethindrone acetate/ethinyl estradiol) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes femhrt will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with femhrt. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of femhrt side effects with you.)
Common Side Effects of Femhrtfemhrt has been thoroughly studied in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking the drug were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in another group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group not taking the medicine.
In these studies, the most common femhrt side effects included:
- Headaches -- in up to 18.2 percent of women
- Abdominal pain (stomach pain) -- up to 10.2 percent
- Breast pain -- up to 9 percent
- Viral infections (such as the common cold or the flu) -- up to 8.6 percent
- Nausea and/or vomiting -- up to 7.4 percent.
Other common femhrt side effects (occurring in 5 to 7 percent of people) included:
- Indigestion or heartburn
- Joint pain
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs, such as a bladder infection)
- Vaginal irritation or infection.
