Menopause Home > Estrasorb Uses

Estrasorb is used for replacing the estrogen that the ovaries no longer produce in menopausal women. Specifically, it is approved for treating vasomotor menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes or night sweats. In some situations, healthcare providers may also recommend off-label Estrasorb uses, such as for the treatment of menopause symptoms other than night sweats or hot flashes.

Uses for Estrasorb: An Overview

Estrasorb® (estradiol emulsion) is a prescription medication that contains an estrogen hormone in a lotion that is applied to the skin of the legs. It is approved for treating certain menopausal symptoms.
Menopause is a normal change in a woman's life when she stops having her period. Because women experience a significant drop in hormones during and after menopause, several different symptoms and changes may occur. For some women, the symptoms of menopause are quite severe, and some form of menopause relief may be necessary. This may include medications, natural menopause relief remedies, or non-medical ways to deal with the symptoms.
There are several different types of menopause symptoms, but Estrasorb is approved to treat only vasomotor menopause symptoms (hot flashes or night sweats). Although Estrasorb is probably effective for other menopause symptoms, it has not been studied (or approved) to treat such symptoms.
For menopause treatment, Estrasorb should be used for the shortest period necessary.

Estrasorb Use in Children and Teens

Estrasorb is not approved for use in children or teens. Discuss the risks and benefits of using Estrasorb with your child's healthcare provider.

Off-Label Estrasorb Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Estrasorb for something other than the conditions listed above. This is called an "off-label" use. At one point, hormone replacement therapy was used off-label for preventing heart disease and dementia (such as Alzheimer's disease), but these are no longer considered legitimate off-label uses. Sometimes hormones are used to promote youthfulness. Again, this is not generally accepted as a legitimate off-label Estrasorb use.
Using Estrasorb to treat menopause symptoms other than night sweats or hot flashes is an off-label use.
