If rifamycin antibiotics or protease inhibitor HIV medications are taken in combination with Divigel, drug interactions could potentially occur. Some interactions with Divigel may reduce the effectiveness of the medication, while others can increase your risk of developing side effects. Other medications that may lead to Divigel interactions include St. John's wort, thyroid replacement medicines, and various antifungal medications or antibiotics.

An Introduction to Divigel Drug Interactions

Divigel® (estradiol gel) has the potential to interact with numerous other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to Divigel interactions include:
 
  • Barbiturates, including (but not limited to):

 

    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)

 

 

 

  • Rifamycin antibiotics, including rifabutin (Mycobutin®), rifampin (Rifadin®), and rifapentine (Priftin®)
  • Some seizure medications, including:

 

 

  • St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum), an herbal supplement
  • Thyroid replacement medications, including:

 

 

  • Various antifungal medications or antibiotics, such as:

 

    • Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
    • Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
    • Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Miconazole
    • Telithromycin (Ketek®).
