Drug Interactions With Jinteli
Before taking Jinteli, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking, including nonprescription medicines and herbal supplements. Protease inhibitors, certain antibiotics, barbiturates, and other drugs can cause negative interactions when taken with Jinteli. These reactions can change the amount of the medications in your blood, possibly causing side effects or decreasing the medicines' effectiveness.

Jinteli™ (norethindrone acetate/ethinyl estradiol) has the potential to negatively react with various medications. Although many of these interactions are not usually significant, some may be quite serious.
Some of the drugs that may lead to interactions with Jinteli include but are not limited to:
- Barbiturate medicines, such as:
- Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
- Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
- Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
- Secobarbital (Seconal®)
- Certain antibiotics or antifungals, such as:
- Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
- Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
- Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
- Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
- Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
- Miconazole
- Telithromycin (Ketek®)
- Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
- Grapefruit juice
- Protease inhibitors, such as:
- Amprenavir (Agenerase®)
- Atazanavir (Reyataz®)
- Fosamprenavir (Lexiva®)
- Indinavir (Crixivan®)
- Nelfinavir (Viracept®)
- Ritonavir (Norvir®)
- Rifamycin antibiotics, including rifabutin (Mycobutin®), rifampin (Rifadin®), and rifapentine (Priftin®)
- Some seizure medications, such as:
- Carbamazepine (Carbatrol®, Epitol®, Equetro™, Tegretol®)
- Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal®)
- Phenytoin (Dilantin®, Phenytek®)
- St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum)
- Thyroid medications (for treating hypothyroidism), such as:
- Liothyronine (Cytomel®)
- Liotrix (Thyrolar®)
- Levothyroxine (Levothroid®, Levoxyl®, Synthroid®, Tirosint®, Unithroid®)
- Thyroid (Armor® Thyroid, Nature-Throid®).
