Evamist Side Effects

Headaches, breast tenderness, and back pain are some of the most common side effects that have been reported with Evamist. Side effects of this medication tend to be minor, but it is possible to develop serious problems that may require medical attention. Rare but serious side effects of Evamist that should be reported to your healthcare provider immediately include blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes.

An Introduction to Evamist Side Effects

As with any medicine, Evamist® (estradiol transdermal spray) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes Evamist will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Evamist

Evamist has been thoroughly studied in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking the drug were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in another group of people taking a placebo (in this case, a spray that did not contain any active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group not taking the medicine.

In these studies, the most common Evamist side effects included:

  • Headaches -- in up to 12 percent of women
  • Breast tenderness -- up to 7 percent
  • Nipple pain -- up to 7 percent
  • The common cold -- up to 5 percent
  • Back pain -- up to 5 percent
  • Joint pain -- up to 5 percent.
