Evamist Dosage

When determining your Evamist dosage, your healthcare provider will consider several factors, such as how you respond to Evamist, the severity of your menopause symptoms, and other medical conditions you have. Generally, you should use the lowest effective Evamist dose for the shortest possible period of time. The recommended starting Evamist dosage is one spray once daily onto the forearm.

Evamist Dosage: An Introduction

The dose of Evamist® (estradiol transdermal spray) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
  • How you respond to Evamist
  • The severity of your menopause symptoms
  • Other medical conditions you may have.
As always, do not adjust your Evamist dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
It is typically recommended that this medication (as well as all hormone replacement therapy medications) be taken at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible period of time. The recommended starting Evamist dose is one spray (1.53 mg of estradiol) once daily.
If you still have a uterus, ask your healthcare provider if you should take Evamist with a progestin hormone, in order to reduce the risk of precancerous and cancerous uterine changes. Taking an estrogen medication (such as Evamist) without a progestin may increase the risk of cancer of the lining of the uterus. If you have had a hysterectomy, there is usually no need to take a progestin along with Evamist.

General Information on Evamist Dosage

Some considerations for people using Evamist include the following:
  • Evamist comes as a spray that is applied to the skin once daily. It comes in an applicator that is specially designed to deliver the exact same dose with each spray.
  • Make sure to closely read the directions that come with Evamist. You must prime the pump the first time you use it by pumping three times with the cover on. After this, you do not need to reprime the pump.
  • Evamist is sprayed onto an area of clean, dry, unbroken skin on an area of the forearm between the elbow and wrist. If your dosage requires more than one spray, the sprays should be right next to each other but not overlapping. Do not rub Evamist into the skin.
  • Evamist dries quickly (within about a minute). Wait at least two minutes before getting dressed, in order to protect your clothing, and wait at least 30 minutes before bathing or showering.

  • Do not let the skin where Evamist has been applied come into contact with children or pets. The drug could be transferred to the child and pet, potentially causing problems. If contact cannot be avoided, you should wear long sleeves to prevent direct contact.

  • Never apply Evamist to the breast or vagina.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your Evamist dosage, please talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
