Estropipate Vaginal Cream: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Talk with your healthcare provider prior to using estropipate vaginal cream if you have:

Cancer (or if you have had cancer in the past)
Unexplained vaginal bleeding
High cholesterol
A history of blood clots
A history of heart attack or stroke
Heart disease
Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver tumors
High triglycerides
Gallbladder disease
An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
Any allergies, including allergies to drugs, foods, preservatives, or dyes.

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:

Have an upcoming surgery
Smoke cigarettes
Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant (see Ogen Vaginal Cream and Pregnancy)

Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

How Does Estropipate Vaginal Cream Work?

As the name implies, estropipate vaginal cream contains estropipate, an estrogen hormone. It helps relieve menopausal symptoms by replacing the estrogen that the ovaries no longer produce. It is a good alternative to hormone replacement therapy taken by mouth, especially in women who only have vaginal menopausal symptoms. It should be noted that a significant amount of estropipate vaginal cream is absorbed into the bloodstream, and many of the risks associated with oral estrogen hormone replacement therapy are expected to occur with estropipate vaginal cream as well.
