Divigel Side Effects

Irregular menstrual bleeding, vaginal yeast infection, and breast tenderness are the most common side effects reported with Divigel. Side effects of the medication are typically mild and either do not require medical attention or can be treated easily. However, there are some rare but serious side effects of Divigel that should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately, including migraines, chest pain, or vision changes.

 

An Introduction to Divigel Side Effects

As with any medicine, Divigel® (estradiol gel) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes Divigel will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Divigel

Divigel has been thoroughly studied in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking the drug were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in another group of people taking a placebo (in this case, a gel without the active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group not taking the medicine.
 
In these studies, the most common Divigel side effects included:
 
  • Irregular menstrual bleeding -- in up to 9.6 percent of women
  • Breast tenderness -- up to 8.8 percent
  • Vaginal yeast infection -- up to 6.4 percent
  • Upper respiratory tract infections, such as the common cold -- up to 5.7 percent.
