CombiPatch Drug Interactions

If you take certain seizure medications, antibiotics, or antifungals while you are using CombiPatch, drug interactions could potentially occur. Other medicines that may also interact with CombiPatch include protease inhibitors, barbiturates, St. John's wort, and thyroid replacement medications. Drug interactions with CombiPatch can increase your risk of developing side effects or reduce the effectiveness of the hormone medication.

 

An Introduction to CombiPatch Drug Interactions

CombiPatch® (estradiol/norethindrone patch) has the potential to interact with several other medications, although many of the CombiPatch drug interactions are not considered to be serious. Some of the medicines that may lead to CombiPatch interactions include:
 
  • Barbiturates medicines, including (but not limited to):

 

    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)

 

  • Certain antibiotics or antifungals, such as:

 

    • Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
    • Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
    • Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Miconazole
    • Telithromycin (Ketek®)

 

  • Certain seizure medications, such as:

 

 

  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
     
  • Protease inhibitors, such as:

 

 

  • Rifamycin antibiotics, including rifabutin (Mycobutin®), rifampin (Rifadin®), and rifapentine (Priftin®)
     
  • St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum), an herbal supplement
     
  • Thyroid replacement medications, including:
