Using Climara Pro for Osteoporosis Prevention
Because estrogen helps to keep the bones strong, the decrease in estrogen during
menopause causes a significant weakening of the bones, often resulting in
osteoporosis. By providing estrogen,
Climara Pro can help prevent these menopause-related bone changes. However,
hormone replacement therapy is not risk-free, and it should only be used in women at significant risk for osteoporosis. Also, other, non-hormonal medications to prevent osteoporosis should be seriously considered before
Climara Pro is used.
Climara Pro Use in Children and Teens
Climara Pro is not approved for use in children or teens. Discuss the risks and benefits of using Climara Pro with your child's healthcare provider.
Off-Label Climara Pro Uses
On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Climara Pro for something other than the conditions listed in this article. This is called an "
off-label" use. At one point, hormone replacement therapy was used off-label for
preventing heart disease and
dementia (such as
Alzheimer's disease), but these are no longer considered legitimate off-label uses. Sometimes hormones are used to promote youthfulness. Again, this is not generally accepted as a legitimate off-label Climara Pro use.
