Climara Pro and Pregnancy

As a pregnancy Category X medication, Climara Pro should not intentionally be used during pregnancy. Climara Pro may cause problems during pregnancy (although the risks are not fully known), and there is no legitimate medical reason for pregnant women to use this medication. If you are using Climara Pro and pregnancy occurs, contact your healthcare provider.

 

Is It Safe to Take Climara Pro During Pregnancy?

Climara Pro® (estradiol/levonorgestrel patch) is a prescription hormone replacement medication. It contains an estrogen and a progestin hormone. There is no accepted medical reason for pregnant women to use Climara Pro.
 

Climara Pro and Pregnancy Category X

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) uses a category system to classify the possible risks to a fetus when a specific medicine is taken during pregnancy. Pregnancy Category X is given to medications that should not be used during pregnancy, usually due to serious problems that could occur, such as birth defects or miscarriages.
 
Even though Climara Pro is a pregnancy Category X medication, it probably does not pose a significant risk for birth defects, miscarriages, or other problems. However, because the risks are not fully known and there is no legitimate reason to use Climara Pro during pregnancy, pregnant women should never use the drug.

Climara Pro should never be intentionally used during pregnancy. If you take Climara Pro and you think you may be pregnant, contact your healthcare provider for further instructions.
