Activella Warnings and Precautions

Women with medical conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, or congestive heart failure should consult their healthcare provider before taking Activella. Warnings and precautions for this medication also include watching out for potential drug interactions and screening for breast cancer regularly. Activella may increase the risk of breast cancer, as well as other problems, including dementia, fluid retention, and gallbladder disease.

Activella: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Activella^® (estradiol/norethindrone) if you have:

A history of heart attack or stroke
Heart disease
A history of blood clots
Cancer (or if you have had cancer in the past)
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Congestive heart failure (CHF)
Diabetes
Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice) during a prior pregnancy or estrogen use
Gallbladder disease
High cholesterol or high triglycerides
Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver tumors
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus)
Asthma
Porphyria (a condition involving problems with certain enzymes in the body)
Seizures or epilepsy
Migraines
Hepatic hemangioma (a kind of liver tumor)
Kidney disease, including kidney failure (renal failure)
An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
Endometriosis
Unexplained vaginal bleeding
Any allergies, including allergies to drugs, foods, preservatives, or dyes.

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:

Have an upcoming surgery
Smoke cigarettes
Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
Are breastfeeding.
